SPAIN PRESENT AT PIXELATL LIVE 2020, THE MAIN MEETING FOR LINKAGE BETWEEN LATIN AMERICAN CREATORS AND THE GLOBAL INDUSTRIES OF ANIMATION, COMICS AND VIDEO GAMES
After being a guest country at the festival in 2019, Spain will once again be present at the event with a virtual stand that will include the Who is Who of animation and VFX in Spain, promotional videos, information on the latest tax incentives applied to animation and VFX, as well as a directory of accredited studios and companies, including Wise Blue Studios, Peekaboo Animation, El Ranchito, 3Doubles and Paramotion Films.
Advantages and opportunities of the new tax incentives applied to animation and VFX
During the event and as part of the official programming, on Wednesday 2nd at 17.00h Central European Time, 10:00h Mexico City time, the ICAA in collaboration with Diboos, the Spanish federation of animation associations, will offer the talk “Spain Your Animate Mate… New Spanish Tax Incentives” in which the new developments regarding tax incentives that specifically affect the animation and VFX sector for international productions will be addressed, such as the increase to 30% of deduction in the first million euros of investment in general terms, which in the case of expenses for this type of projects is applicable from a minimum investment of 200,000 euros or the increase in the total deduction limit to 10 million euros, among others.
The president of Diboos, Nico Matji ( will participate in the talkLightbox Animation Studios) – producer responsible for titles such as 'Tadeo Jones' or 'Capture the Flag', the Vice President of Diboos Iván Agenjo (Peekabo Animation), Félix Bergés, CEO at the VFX company El ranchito ('Game of Thrones, 'Mandalorian'), Nathalie Martínez, CEO at Wise Blue Studios ('Animal Crackers'), as well as Natacha Mora, coordinator of Canary Islands Film and Darío Sánchez, CEO of the production company and VFX studio 3Doubles (Arpo the robot, The Ogglies and co-producer of Momonster) who will talk about the additional advantages of incentives in the Canary Islands. To close, there will be the collaboration of Noemí Coloma, lawyer at WeLaw, who will talk about legal security in terms of incentives and will give a series of recommendations for possible international companies interested in bringing their productions to the territory of the State.

Young talents of Spanish animation
WEIRD – Animation, Video Games and New Media Market, in collaboration with the ICAA, will present three animated short film projects promoted by young talents at Pixelatl (Thursday, September 3, 8:00 p.m. CET, 1:00 p.m. Mexico City time). They will talk about “3x Projects by New Spanish Animation Emerging Talents”. Diego Porral (Director), nominated for a Goya in 2018 for his short film 'Un día en el parque', and Joaquín Garralda (Screenwriter, Producer), will present 'Leopoldo en el bar'; Marina Donderis, Núria Poveda and Marina Cortón will do the same with their project 'Becarias'; and Genis Rigol will talk about 'He Ran Alongside His Comrade', a project selected for the comic and animation residency La Maison des Auteurs, in Angouleme for 2021. The project representatives will also participate in the one-to-one meetings organized by the festival with representatives of channels and platforms such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Netflix, Fox, Discovery Kids, Sony Pictures Animation, Disney Animation Studios, Dreamworks Animation TV, Amazon Studios, the BBC, PBS (the United States public television) and Televisa (Mexico), among others.
Programming
The festival includes in its programme the short film “Homeless Home” by director Alberto Vázquez, a production by UniKo and Autour de Minuit that won the Jury Prize at the last edition of the Annecy Festival. Also among the titles that can be seen in the LIVE edition of Pixelatl, within the Horizontes programme of the Official Selection is “Routine” directed by SAM, creator of the short film “Vicenta” that was nominated in the last edition of the Goya Awards.
More guests
Also participating in the festival, with the help of the 'Mobility' category of the PICE programme of Acción Cultural Española, will be Adrián Miguel, Lead Animator at Nómada Estudio, creators of the multi-award-winning video game “Gris” and Igor Heras, Director of Monsters Pit, a creative studio specialising in video games ('Runaway: A twist of Fate', 'The Next Big Thing', 'Castlevania: Lord of Shadows').
The Quirino Awards will also be present, serving as a bridge between Europe and Latin America, presenting the report on “Resilience in Ibero-American animation” and through the Ibero-American Animation League (together with Animation!-Ventana Sur and Pixelatl itself) with a special presentation of the “Las Primeras” project.
The festival also features the participation of Daniel Tubau, a writer and scriptwriter who worked in the Projects Department of Globo Media as a collaborator for several years in the creation and launch of more than a dozen formats and programs. He was also a scriptwriter for programs such as 'Caiga quien Caiga', 'La Ruleta de la Fortuna' (Tele 5 and Antena 3), 'Club Disney', 'El Informal', 'El Gran Juego de la Oca', among others.
